The camp
A Barndominium Camp Built for Hunting Weekends
The camp centered on a 1,200 sq ft barndominium with 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and about 500 sq ft of porches. An extended patio with a large fire pit sits just off the screened porch, with plenty of room to cook and relax.
A three-sided equipment shed, a game cleaning station and several utility sheds rounded out the improvements. The barndominium sits on the highest point of the ranch, overlooking the countryside to the north.
Water
Three Ponds, Two Wells and Rosita Creek
A working water well at the camp supplied the home and all three ponds, which helps hold wildlife in this part of South Texas. A second well was drilled next to the main well and could be finished for more water.
The camp pond is lined and stocked with bass and perch. Rosita Creek runs through the north side of the ranch and can hold water during wet times.
Habitat and hunting
Brush Country Set Up to Hunt on Day One
Rosita Creek creates areas of towering bull mesquite and rich soils, and the owner opened up several field areas for deer away from vehicle traffic. Long senderos and a boundary road reach the whole low-fence perimeter.
Two ladder stands, two rifle blinds on trailers, two elevated bow blinds, two 600 lb corn feeders and two protein feeders in existing pens were part of the setup.

Valle Solitario Ranch is in Duval County on CR 321, about 2 miles off Highway 44 and just southeast of Freer. It offered real seclusion while staying close to a paved highway.
